Before visiting Berlin, I had heard from travelers that it was a fascinating city. There was the mix of East and West Berlin as well as the art scene that interested me. Not to mention the history of World War 2 also interested me in visiting Berlin. It was a no brainer when I booked my flight to Berlin from Croatia.
I landed in Berlin a bit late on a Sunday night and checked into my hostel named East Seven. I didn’t get to do much my first night because it was relatively slow so did go to a place near my hostel called Burgermann. I tried the currywurst which is quite famous in Berlin.
I came across East Seven Hostel on an online website when I was looking for top hostels in Berlin. My goal was to find a hostel that had a good atmosphere for meeting people but wasn’t a party hostel. East Seven Hostel exceeded my expectations, and when I open a hostel someday there are many aspects I liked about this one. In particular, the lounge area with sofas which made it easy for meeting other travelers, the Spotify and speakers which allowed guests to choose their favorite songs while chatting with others, the cleanliness of the hostel, the location next to the subway station and also the fact that it was not loud. I was able to get a good night’s rest every night I was there staying in a private room. I would also like to mention that the bathrooms of the hostel were impeccably clean as well hot showers and good Wi-fi. If you are in need of finding a good hostel when in Berlin, do yourself a favor and book a room at the East Seven Hostel.
If you need to go shopping, I recommend checking out the area around Alexanderplatz since you will be able to find most of what you need there. This is what I did on my second day in Berlin and also tried a doner kebab in this area. Apparently, the doner kebab was invented in Berlin so it is something you must try there. What can I say? It was fresh and delicious for only about 4 euros. I knew it was good because there was a huge line of people waiting to get one. In the evening, I linked up with people from the hostel and went out with a Dutch couple to a Belgian bar called Herman’s which is close to the hostel. I have always been a fan of Belgian beers ever since I tried my first Leffe Blond so I thought it’d be a great opportunity to try even more Belgian beers. We got there late that night so I only had a chance to try one beer which the Dutch guy recommended. Herman is a great bar near East Seven Hostel, and the owner Bart is very helpful about the different types of Belgian beers. I tried so many delicious beers there! During my visit, I thought it was one of the best pubs in Berlin.
Afterwards, we tried out a hookah lounge named Marrakesch Orientalische Shisha Lounge nearby. We tried a watermelon flavored hookah which was a good flavor and on par with a double apple flavored one. After our eventful evening, we decided to call it a night and I thanked the Dutch couple for joining me.
I will be posting part two of my trip next week which includes more information about Berlin!
