In case you are wondering what to do in Nagoya, Japan look no further! The food is absolutely delicious! You have to try the miso katsu and Japanese chicken wings.
This past weekend I had the opportunity to visit Nagoya from Tokyo. I never had given visiting Nagoya much thought but began to do some research before my trip. Apparently, the Japanese chicken wings called tebasaki in Japanese are quite famous in Nagoya as well as the miso katsu which is a pork cutlet with miso based sauce. There is also the Nagoya Castle, which was built during the Edo period, and it is one of the most important castles in Japan. While I did not get a chance to visit the tourist landmarks due to work, I did get an opportunity to try some delicious craft beer as well as food.
Upon arriving to Nagoya, I felt it was much more laid back than Tokyo.
My first night I arrived I went to a bar which was recommended by a friend in Tokyo. The name of the venue is Bricklane and it specializes in fresh hamburgers and craft beer. In case you are wondering about Nagoya restaurant locations, it is located very close to Fushimi station which is one stop from Nagoya station. To my surprise, they had a Michigan hard apple cider which I’ve never seen in Tokyo. Also, if you are craving a delicious juicy burger this is definitely the restaurant to visit. I ordered their spicy burger which was the special for the week and was satisfied with the spice level and the freshness of the burger. It went down well with the hard cider. The staff at this restaurant have traveled in the US and have a love for good craft beer and food. I highly recommend visiting this restaurant when in Nagoya.
The next day I met a few locals and mentioned to them how I had an interest in trying the famous chicken wings of Nagoya. They knew of a restaurant so off we went in a big group to try it out. Unfortunately the restaurant we went to was fully booked but the locals in our group knew another restaurant to visit which also had the famous Nagoya fried chicken. It’s great sharing a full meal with people you’ve just met it’s like you form a connection through food. We ate miso katsu, Japanese chicken wings as well as the big hit miso pizza. I had never heard of a miso pizza but all I have to say is that it’s the most delicious pizza I’ve had in my time in Japan and highly recommend you try it when visiting Nagoya. We ordered so much food that I could barely walk once we left the venue. Nagoya was truly foodie heaven!
