For this week on the blog, I am going to mention one of the day trips I took when in Kuala Lumpur. Want to get away from the hustle and bustle of Kuala Lumpur? Look no further into going to Cameron Highlands! You will escape the heat of KL and hit an oasis when you are in Cameron. The air is fresh and there are fresh strawberries to pick and local tea to try. My trip to Cameron Highlands was absolutely fabulous.
How to get there?: Take the bus or if you have a cool Malaysian friend like I did get a lift with them!
Trip from KL: Takes about 3 hours (If you get motion sickness, I recommend bringing pills) It is a windy road!
Things to do: I am going to write from my personal experience. The first activity that you have to do is try the Cameron Highlands tea. You will go to the Boh Tea Estate Cameron Highland and get a great view of the locally made tea. It's one of the most famous tea plantations in Malaysia. There are different flavors to suit your tastes. You have to walk for about 10-15 minutes to find the plantation but it is well worth it. You can also go on a short trek nearby for more views of this beautiful plantation. The second activity you must do is visit a strawberry farm in Cameron Highlands. There are many strawberry farms in the area. The farm we went to cost about 30 ringgit to pick 1/2 kilo of strawberries. They are fresh and delicious! If you have more spare time, I recommend going to Balas Chalet (hotel/restaurant) to see more of the British colonial architecture. I had the apple pie and ice cream which was delicious. I also recommend the scone which is made fresh daily. They ran out of it by the time I arrived so get there early! I highly recommend taking a trip to Cameron Highlands.
Here are some shots from the trip:
