Looking for where to go in Harajuku? I had a chance to try delicious Mexican food and craft beer in a visit to Harajuku. I heard about this craft beer bar called Baird Beer Taproom Harajuku and a Mexican restaurant called Chiles Mexican. Baird Beer Taproom is unique because it’s unlike other craft beer bars in Tokyo. This venue is actually owned by a craft beer company called Baird. To get there, you will take the JR to Harajuku Station and the venue is on Takeshita in one of the side streets.
Inside Baird Taproom, you will find a comfortable atmosphere with friendly staff. The architecture has a wooden look to it, reminiscent of a cabin feel.
Upon viewing their venue, I noticed there were over 12 beers on tap in addition to other seasonal beers. I decided to order the sampler which was only 1000 yen for 3 260ML beers. If you are new to Baird, I recommend trying the beer sampler since you will be able to taste the different flavors on tap and better decide what you would like to choose for a pint.
My favorite beer on the menu is the Imperial IPA which will give you a nice hoppy taste. Along with really nice beers, there is also a Japanese Izakaya food menu which I did not get to try. I was told the Gyoza is really tasty so I definitely will give a try next time I visit. There is also a new location which opened recently in Takadanobaba JR Station. Next, I had a chance to visit Chiles Mexican Grill in Harajuku. This venue is also on Takeshita but I recommend using Google Maps since the location is a bit tricky to find. I will have to say from the two burrito places I tried in Tokyo the other being Guzman, Chiles is my favorite and highly recommend going there. I tried the Chicken Ranchero burrito and the chicken was slow cooked and the sauce was delicious. You will have your choice of fillings for the burrito. I ordered the burrito medium which I will make sure to get it hot next time because it wasn’t too spicy.
The restaurant also has Hawaiian canned juices and Horchata which are nice during the summer heat. After I paid for my meal, I noticed the staff spoke Spanish which is great they hire international staff for the kitchen and I noticed after reading their website the head chef and owner is Mexican.
