If you want to see the beaches in Lombok, I recommend getting a motorbike. I actually didn’t know how to ride one and got my first experience with it this trip. The outcome: my motorbike hits my friends and knocks it down! Rule #1 do not use the brake and gas at the same time.
During the trip, my friends and I checked out the Kuta Lombok beach which is the main beach in the Kuta Lombok area. Really, I do not recommend going to this beach. It was kind of dirty to be honest although the tide was good for swimming.
My friend got the idea to check out the other beach which is called Mawun. It is one of the best Lombok beaches. The trip was about an 8KM ride to get over to that beach but the scenery is well worth it. You will be stopping along the way to take pictures! It’s that beautiful!
Just a reminder that if you are a new motorbike driver to drive slowly because there are many twists and turns along the route. In addition, the drivers are pretty reckless and will cut you off! Just be patient.
Once you arrive to the beach, you will have to pay 1,000 IDR for parking. Arriving to the beach, the scenery was picturesque. Bring your camera with you but make sure to have a friend watch it for you while you swim. It is known that people can snatch your belongings! When I went, the waves were very strong and pushed me back pretty far so use caution when swimming!
Afterwards, we took the road back to Kuta Lombok and stopped at a valley to get some beautiful shots:
Then we went over to the sunset direction and got some more beautiful shots:
Later, we arrived back to Kutamara Hotel and Villa to rest and get ready for the following day’s activities.
Lombok surf spots are well known as there is a beach for beginners as well as more advanced surfers. I decided to check out one of the beaches. Surfer's Beach is one of the famous Lombok surf spots. The motorbike ride there was about 30 minutes. To surf, you have to be taken out by boat for 100k. A reminder that the road is not very safe so watch out for potholes and the drivers both in motorbikes and cars swerving in and out of traffic because the waves weren't too great, and we wanted to get some good landscape photography we decided to head over to sunset cove. Evading a tout, we made our way. Watch out for touts since they will try to follow you to make a commission on whatever you buy from the surf shop.I wanted to find more Lombok surf spots but I will have to make another trip to join the surf school there.
Sunset cove was a beauty to climb. Make sure to bring shoes for hiking because the way up is steep. Also, there will be a 1000 IDR (Indonesian Rupiah) charge for parking your motorbike. After about 20 minutes of going steeply uphill we made it to the top. The view was spectacular! Make sure to bring your camera and to arrive for sunset. I arrived a bit early so most of my photos ended up a bit too bright. Afterwards, my travel mates and I took the road back to Hotel Kutamara then ate some delicious burgers.
The following day my friend took me on the motorbike and I was a bit elated to be leaving Lombok. Likely because of my bout with stomach craps which the food or water was potentially the culprit. You should avoid the tap water and unhygienic food could cause stomach problems. A bit difficult it seemed for me to do but maybe you could fare better? Off to KL to conclude this trip!
