I wanted to know about things to do in Belgrade, Serbia when I arrived. After I got to Belgrade, I went on two different walking tours which I recommend as the best things to do in Belgrade, Serbia. This is because it will get you acquainted with the Belgrade well as an opportunity to meet other travelers interested in learning about the city well. first one was the 20th century walking tour and the second was the general walking tour. Both tours were about 2.5 hours and the guides were very knowledgeable. The last walking tour I did was in Berlin with Brewer's Berlin Tours.
The first day I went on the 20th century walking tour. I do recommend going on this tour after the general walking tour since it covers more detail on the 20th century. The tour starts everyday at 1030AM and ended around 1PM. The meeting point is at the Republic Square. You will be walking around for a few hours so make sure to have a bite to eat before the tour and bring some water. The 20th Century walking tour covered 20th century history as well as architecture. We walked around various parts of Belgrade visiting: Saint Marko Church, Russian Orthodox Church and the radio television towers of 1999. The guide did a great job of filling the background history with stories of these different monuments such as what happened during the NATO bombings of the television towers in 1999 as well as other perspectives of what happened which weren’t shown in the media during that time. Also, we walked passed the Nikola Tesla museum and were given much history on this famous scientist as well as general information about the museum which has an English tour during specific times. The tour ended at the Saint Sava Temple which is the largest Orthodox Temple in the Balkans and also ranks as one of the biggest church buildings in the world. The guides do not pressure you to leave a tip. If you liked the tour, you can leave a tip or not. They also appreciate Trip Advisor reviews to help them with their ratings. In my second post, I will write up my recap about the free downtown walking tour.
