Without a doubt, Titans is one of the best Tokyo craft beer bars!
I first visited Titans when they opened about 6 months ago and was impressed. It had a very relaxed atmosphere, variety of craft beers, and friendly and knowledgeable staff. This venue stands out in Otsuka and I got the opportunity to sit down with one of the owners, Todd to discuss his views on craft beer and the bar in general.
Todd got into craft beer when he was in college visiting a grocery store and noticing the different beer selections. He tried various beers and experimented with home brewing. In a short story, Todd started the craft beer importer “Beer Cats” and teamed up with Albert who owns the importer “AQ Bevolution” to create a craft beer bar in the Tokyo area.
The reason that they decided to create a craft beer bar is because they wanted to showcase the best of what they do as beer importers as well as to have a physical space to share with the community. Think of this: you can bring your laptop and get some work done and enjoy a few beers or even read a book? You can do these activities in Titans. In addition to providing awesome Utsunomiya Gyoza, you can bring your own food. I don’t know of many places in Tokyo that allow you to do that.
Before they opened the bar, the owners had to choose a location. I wondered, why Otsuka? They chose this particular area as Todd said it’s a “renaissance neighborhood” combining both old and new. You can see traditional Japanese shops selling desserts as well as trendy cafes in the area.
The name Titans was chosen because the owners wanted to think “big” this is evidenced in the Titans size beer, which is actually a pint and a half, and at value price!
There are several craft beer bars in the area but what differentiates Titans from the competitors? After speaking to Todd, “quality, constantly changing beer list, unique space and atmosphere” are distinguishing features you should consider when visiting Titans. I know for a fact as being a regular patron there that it is quite a unique space. On the first floor, you can chat with the Beer Manager, Adam, and have a drink. The loft creates a cozier atmosphere with the floor seating and the second floor allows you to socialize with a group of friends.
Want to have a party with a group of you friends? No problem. You can have your own space there and that is one of the unique aspects of Titans.
Finally, I asked Todd about his favorite part of running a craft beer bar and he mentioned that, “we were able to take our vision and turn it into a venue and experience for our guests”
If you would like to visit Titans, it is open from 3pm to 11:30pm (11:00pm Last Order) 7 days a week.
There is a special event in April: 4/27 will be the 10th anniversary event for Schooner EXACT Brewing Co.
Here are a few pictures of the venue:
